Jill Lawson

Jill Lawson | Heart and Core Yoga Studio | Cortez, Colorado

Sharing her talents for more than 20 years, Jill’s knowledge and experience has allowed her to develop and maintain a successful business and career. She began her profession in 1992 as an aerobics instructor and personal trainer. After earning a master’s degree in exercise science, and obtaining several fitness and yoga certifications, Jill dove in to study the deep roots of yoga philosophy at the Sivanana Ashram in the Bahamas.

“Yoga is a wonderful way to discover who we are. I am grateful my spiritual life doesn’t ask me to change my name, join the crowd, or adopt someone else’s ideology. Ralph Waldo Emerson said it well, ‘To be oneself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else, is the greatest accomplishment.’ And to me, that is the essence of enlightenment.” Jill’s teaching style is not only creative, fun, and inspiring, she is a professional, and finds ways to make everyone feel welcome.

As a published writer, Jill’s wisdom and insightful humor are featured in several blogs, and magazines. She is a columnist for Om Yoga and Lifestyle Magazine UK, and a regular blogger for the Huffington Post, US and UK editions. Jill’s articles have appeared in the following blogs: MindBodyGreen, Elephant Journal, Diets in Review, and in Snowshoe Magazine, and Yoga Magazine UK. Author and publisher Martin Clark writes about Jill in the book, How to be a Yoga Rockstar.

In addition to writing, and running Heart and Core Yoga studio, Jill leads her own 200-hr yoga teacher-training course. You can find her presenting at the Telluride Yoga Festival, and leading the occasional yoga retreat.

Jill’s extensive background in kinesiology, anatomy, and biomechanics, as well as her in depth study of yoga history and philosophy, enable her to lead a high-quality 200-hr yoga teacher training course. She has led five yoga teacher training courses as well as trained and certified fitness and aerobics instructors, personal trainers, and has taught several exercise science and kinesiology classes at the University of New Mexico and Texas State University as a graduate teaching assistant.
