Jill Lawson is the owner of Heart and Core Yoga studio, and an instructor for our 200-hour, registered Yoga Alliance yoga teacher training program. She has led five yoga teacher training courses as well as trained and certified fitness and aerobics instructors, personal trainers, and has taught several undergraduate exercise science and kinesiology classes at the University of New Mexico and Texas State University as a graduate teaching assistant.
Jill taught her first fitness class 1992, and from then on has made health and wellness her passion. She graduated with a BA in Exercise Science from Fort Lewis College, and later with a M.Ed. in Physical Education from Texas State University. Her certifications through the American College of Sports Medicine, Aerobic and Fitness Association of America, and Power Vinyasa Yoga, have sparked an interest in learning more about the philosophical aspects of yoga. In 2004, she became a resident of a yoga ashram, and during her stay, became a certified Sivananda yoga teacher. Jill continues to learn about yoga as a lifestyle through her personal practices and life experiences.
Jill’s extensive background in kinesiology, anatomy, and biomechanics, as well as her in depth study of yoga history and philosophy, enables her to lead a high-quality 200-hr yoga teacher training course. Her classes span across the mind-body spectrum to include yoga, Pilates, and physical fitness. Jill’s teaching style is not only creative, fun, and inspiring, she is a professional, and finds ways to make everyone feel welcome.
Jill is also a freelance writer, and has published 500+ articles in The Huffington Post, OM Yoga Magazine, Yoga Journal, MindBodyGreen, Diets in Review, Yoga Magazine, and Snowshoe Magazine. Please see links to view a sampling of Jill’s articles below.
